With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Perry King, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on May 3, 2026, at the age of 70. Perry's journey began on January 14, 1956, in the warm embrace of Jacksonville, Florida, a city that witnessed the growth of an extraordinary life filled with love, kindness, and dedication.
Perry was the cherished son of the late Barbara Jean King and the grandson of Emma Williams and Annie Young. He was also predeceased by his dear brother, Walter Franklin Young. Despite these profound losses, Perry's life was a testament to resilience and love, drawing strength from his cherished memories and the family he held dear.
Perry's life was wonderfully enriched by his loving wife, Shelia King, who was his partner in every sense of the word. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, raising their children Perry King, Jr. (Latrisha), Barbara Mays (William), Kenya Finley (Marcus), and India King. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren—Kendrick, Tia, Alexia, Quennitta, Marchai, Truth, Levi, Genesis, Shawn, and Haley—as well as four great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his siblings, Cheryl Summers (Larry Sr.), Waltine Bellamy, Cedric Young (Pearl), and Charlotte Trice (Robert), who shared countless memories and moments of laughter with him. Perry was a beloved member of a vibrant extended family, including in-laws Faye Jackson, Janice Tutson (Steve), Janet Jackson, and Antonia Carter (Reginald), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends.
Perry's educational journey began in the Duval County School System, where he laid the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. He further pursued his education at Florida Community College at Jacksonville, earning an Associate in Arts degree, and at Memphis State University, where he was awarded a football scholarship, showcasing his tenacity and passion for sports.
Perry proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, embodying the values of duty, honor, and service. After his military service, Perry found a fulfilling career with Cracker Barrel, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic and warm personality.
A man of deep faith, Perry was a devoted member of the Baptist community, drawing strength and guidance from his beliefs throughout his life. He was a man of many interests, finding joy in staying active at the gym, nurturing his garden, exploring new places through travel, and cooking meals that brought his family together. His greatest happiness, however, was found in the company of his grandchildren, with whom he shared countless adventures and heartwarming moments.
Perry's home was often the heart of family gatherings, where laughter and love filled the air, creating memories that will be cherished forever. His warmth, kindness, and love for life will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate to know him.
In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held, allowing family and close friends to honor his memory and celebrate a life well-lived. Though he is no longer with us in body, Perry's spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched, a lasting legacy of love, resilience, and joy.
Rest in peace, dear Perry. You have left an indelible mark on this world, and you will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew you.
