Penny Renea Leach

July 3, 1961 — June 16, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Penny Renea Leach, who departed this life on June 16, 2026, at the age of 64. Penny was born on July 3, 1961, in Winston-Salem, NC, to the late Aaron Hall and Mary Leach Horne, who cherished her dearly. A proud graduate of South Park High School, Class of 1979, Penny forged a path of dedication and hard work. Her career was centered around her many years of service at Hanes Brand, from which she gracefully retired in 2014. She was known for her unwavering commitment and the warm spirit she brought to her workplace, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and kindness. Penny's life was a colorful tapestry of music, movement, and joy. She found immense pleasure in listening to music, swimming, and dancing, passions that filled her days with happiness and vibrancy. Penny also had a sharp mind and loved the challenge of crossword puzzles, finding solace and satisfaction in solving each one. Her infectious laughter and her memorable expressions, "Well, I Be Da*n" and "Ok Baby," will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew her well. She was preceded in death by her cherished son, Benny Leach, whose memory she carried with her always. Penny is survived by a loving family who will continue to honor her memory: her devoted mother, Mary Leach Horne, and stepfather James; her siblings, Aaron Leach, Lori Taylor, Tammy Giles and husband Jules, Edwin Hall, Tyrone Leach and wife Janise, and James Leach and wife Kenya. Penny also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and other relatives, all of whom were touched by her warmth and generosity. Penny's life will be celebrated on June 27, 2026, at 11:30 AM at the Douthit Funeral Homes, located at 515 Specialty Park Dr. Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Penny are invited to join us as we honor her life and bid farewell to a remarkable woman who lived with love and grace. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to each and every one for the many acts of kindness shown during this difficult time. We are deeply thankful for the cards, calls, visits, food, prayers, flowers, and expressions of love that have comforted us. A special thank you to the entire staff at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation for their compassionate care.
