September 6, 1969 — August 8, 2026

Penny Ann Hevner, 56, of West Ocean City, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026. She was born on September 6, 1969, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and was raised in Berlin, Maryland. Penny will be remembered not for what she had, but for what she gave. She had a big heart, a deep sense of compassion, and a capacity for love that touched the lives of those around her. She found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life—spending time with friends, listening to music, attending church, creating through crafts, and sharing her kindness with others. Penny spent much of her working life as an amusement ride operator and also worked as a sales associate. Throughout her life, she built friendships that lasted decades. Among those closest to her were Brad Trageser and James Flanagan, who shared more than 30 years of friendship and memories with her. In recent years, Penny grew especially close with her sister, Lisa Hevner Bentz, and the two shared a renewed bond that became a meaningful part of her later years. Penny also held a place in her heart for Lisa’s partner of 20 years, Brady Bowman. Brady, who passed away from cancer on the same day as Penny, was a cherished part of the family and will be remembered alongside her. She is survived by her daughter, Courtney Hevner (Dylan); four grandchildren; her sister, Lisa Hevner Bentz; and many friends and loved ones who will carry her memory forward. She was preceded in death by her parents, Austin Benjamin Hevner and Marie Carras Hevner. Penny’s life was defined not by material things, but by the love, compassion, and generosity she offered to others. Her memory will live on in the people she cared for, the friendships she nurtured, the moments she shared, and the love she gave so freely. May she rest in peace. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared once arrangements have been finalized.
