December 26, 1939 — June 3, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude, we announce the peaceful passing of Peggy Cortner Cain, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life on June 3, 2026, at the age of 86. Peggy was a beloved resident of Cerulean, Kentucky, born on December 26, 1939, to the late Nuell and Maybelle Brashears Cortner.
Peggy's life was a testament to devotion, kindness, and resilience. Raised in the close-knit community of Cerulean, she graduated from Trigg County High School in 1958, where she began to form the lifelong friendships and values that would guide her through a life marked by love and service. Her life was one of unwavering dedication, not only to her family but to her community.
Peggy shared a beautiful life with her late husband, Rex Cain, who preceded her in death on October 27, 2014. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and warmth. A devoted mother and grandmother, Peggy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Tammy Cain, who carry forward her legacy of love and strength. Her grandsons, Justin Cain and Josh Cain, were the light of her life, and her great-grandsons, Foster and Porter Cain, brought her endless joy, affectionately calling her “Piggy.”
Her commitment to hard work was evident in all she did. Peggy spent many years employed at the Cerulean Market, where her friendly smile and helpful nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Later, she applied her skills as a bookkeeper for the family business, Cortner Shop, where her meticulous nature and dedication were indispensable.
Throughout her life, Peggy was a steadfast member of the Cerulean Baptist Church, where her faith was a guiding beacon. Her involvement in the church community was a reflection of her generous spirit and unwavering belief in the power of kindness.
Peggy is also survived by her brother, David Cortner, and her sister, Carolyn Cortner, as well as her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and Becky Cain. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jerry and Billy Cortner, and her sister, Bettye Cortner, with whom she shared a bond that transcended time and distance.
Peggy's life was marked by a love for staying busy and taking care of those around her. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she was their cherished “Piggy,” always ready with a hug and a smile. Her home was a haven of love, where family gatherings were filled with laughter and her endless support.
Though Peggy has left this earthly world, her spirit will forever shine in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of love, dedication, and unwavering faith, and she leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations.
A celebration of Peggy's life will be held at the Cerulean Baptist Church, where friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for a life well-lived. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Cerulean Baptist Church, in honor of Peggy's enduring faith and commitment to her community.
Rest in peace, dear Peggy. You were a beacon of light in this world, and you will always be remembered with love and gratitude.
