In Loving Memory

Peggy Cooper
February 13, 1933 — April 11, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Peggy Cooper, a beloved aunt, cousin, and friend, who left this world peacefully in her sleep on 11, April 2026, at the age of 93. Peggy was surrounded by the love of her family, a fitting farewell for a woman who lived her life with an abundance of joy and laughter.
Peggy was born on 13, February 1933, in the charming countryside of Sussex, England, to parents David and Mary. From an early age, Peggy showed a remarkable zest for life and a mischievous spirit that would come to define her. Her childhood was marked by daring adventures, including narrowly avoiding expulsion from school by the age of 11 and a series of youthful indiscretions that led to three arrests by age 17. Despite—or perhaps because of—these antics, Peggy's charm won the hearts of all who knew her.
In 1953, Peggy married the love of her life, Bill, on New Year’s Day, after romantically proposing to him on his birthday the previous November. Their 44-year marriage was filled with song, dance, and the playful companionship of their cat, Herbie, and duck, Mac. Bill and Peggy's home was a haven of laughter, where every corner echoed with music and shared stories.
During World War II, Peggy served as an emergency telephone operator. Her tenure was marked by her quick wit and cheeky humor, often earning her visits to the boss's office where even reprimands were softened by tea and biscuits. Peggy later dedicated 20 years to the London post office, where her penchant for practical jokes ensured she was both a beloved and lively presence.
Peggy's humor was infectious. She was a collector of singing animals, which she delighted in playing for the neighborhood children and her family, much to their simultaneous amusement and chagrin. Known for beginning impromptu sing-a-longs at restaurants, Peggy had an uncanny ability to turn every occasion into a celebration.
In her personal life, Peggy was a woman of profound warmth and generosity. Her home was always open, her laughter always infectious, and her heart always full. She had a knack for making everyone around her feel special, often indulging the children around her with dessert before dinner—a tradition she herself adored.
Though she has now joined her beloved Bill and sister Betty, Peggy leaves behind a family that includes her niece Carole, nephews Andrew and David, great-nieces Alex and Simone, great-great-nephew Sailor, and her dear cousins Vanessa, Belinda, and Sally. Her friends at New Haven nursing home will deeply miss her vibrant spirit.
A celebration of Peggy's life will be held on 1, May 2026, at 1:00 PM at The Fox, her favorite pub in Small Dole. As we gather to honor her extraordinary life, the family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caretakers at New Haven for their compassionate care of our brilliant Peggy.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to share a joke, sing a song, or simply raise a glass in memory of a woman whose life was a testament to joy, humor, and love.
