With hearts heavy with loss but filled with gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Peggy Cate, who left this world peacefully on April 21, 2026, at the age of 75. Peggy was born on February 2, 1951, in the vibrant city of Knoxville, Tennessee, where she spent much of her life weaving a tapestry of love, resilience, and dedication that will be cherished for generations.
Peggy was a beloved matriarch, a devoted mother, and a cherished grandmother whose warmth and kindness touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her compassionate spirit and unwavering support were the cornerstones of the Cate and Spencer families. She is survived by her children: Shawn Cate, Sam Cate, Shyann Spencer, Alexis Spencer, and Tyler Spencer, who will forever remember her as a guiding light in their lives. Her legacy also lives on through her five treasured grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to her heart.
For over two decades, Peggy dedicated herself to her work at Dollar General, where she was much more than an employee. She was a beacon of positivity and reliability, known for her friendly demeanor and tireless commitment. Her colleagues and customers alike appreciated her genuine interest in their lives, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to call her a friend.
Peggy's life was a testament to the power of love and perseverance. Her nurturing soul and infectious laughter created a welcoming home where everyone felt valued and loved. She had an extraordinary ability to find joy in life's simple pleasures, whether tending to her garden, sharing a story, or savoring a cup of sweet tea on the porch.
Beyond her family and career, Peggy was a woman of many talents and interests. She found solace in nature, often seeking the peace of the great outdoors, where she spent countless hours hiking the trails of her beloved Tennessee with her family and friends. Her appreciation for the natural world was a reflection of her deep-rooted belief in the beauty and interconnectedness of all living things.
Though Peggy's time with us has come to an unexpected close due to a heart attack, the love she imparted and the values she instilled will forever resonate within those who knew her. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering strength.
A celebration of Peggy Cate's life will be held on April 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Knoxville. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of this remarkable woman who blessed our lives with her presence. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the American Heart Association in Peggy's memory, honoring her commitment to helping others and raising awareness for heart health.
Peggy Cate's departure has left a void that can never truly be filled, but the love she shared will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. May her soul find eternal peace, and may we carry her spirit forward with every act of kindness we share with the world.
