January 13, 1948 — September 21, 2026
Peggy Irene Bailey Deaver, lovingly known to family and friends as "Lil Sister," peacefully departed this life at her home on September 21, 2026. Born on January 13, 1948, in Newport News, Virginia, Peggy began a journey that would touch countless hearts and leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The daughter of the late Joseph Bailey and Helen Gill, Peggy was a cherished part of a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her siblings Patricia Turner, Jimmie Gill, and Joseph "Mack" Bailey, but her legacy continues through those she leaves behind.
Peggy's life was a tapestry of love and devotion, woven with the threads of family, friendship, and faith. Her beloved husband, Wendell Deaver, stood by her side as her steadfast partner, sharing a life rich with shared dreams and cherished memories. Together, they raised three daughters: Andrea Jones, Anita Deaver, and Crystal Deaver-Francis, who will carry forward the values and love she instilled in them.
Her cherished grandchildren, Courtney Jones, Aaron Deaver, and Aaliyah Deaver, along with her two great-grandchildren, will always remember their grandmother's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support. Peggy also leaves behind her sister, Grace Fort, and her brothers, Dr. Tyrone Bailey and Marvin Bailey (Mamie), both of Richmond, Virginia. Her legacy of love and kindness extends to her dear goddaughters, LaShondra Jones-Alves of Raleigh, Tiesha Kennedy of Simmesport, Louisiana, and Jackie Mason of Baltimore, Maryland.
Peggy's educational journey began at Washington Elementary and continued through Ligon High School, culminating in her graduation from Garner High School. She carried the lessons from these formative years into a life of purpose and service.
Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched with her kindness, grace, and generosity. In honor of Peggy's life and her commitment to helping others, the family suggests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice, reflecting the giving spirit that defined her life.
As we remember Peggy Irene Bailey Deaver, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will endure through the generations. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever be a source of inspiration and strength for her family and friends.
