Peggie Sue Groomes Pierce
January 19, 1948 — May 26, 2026
Peggie Sue Groomes Pierce, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 26, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 19, 1948, in Cleveland, Tennessee, Peggie was a beacon of love, strength, and unwavering faith throughout her 78 years.
The daughter of Mayme and Ralph Groomes, Peggie grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in her values of kindness, resilience, and dedication. She carried these values with her throughout her life, sharing them generously with everyone she encountered. Peggie was a devoted wife to her beloved Everette Pierce, whom she married on May 23, 1964, in Cleveland. Together, they celebrated 59 wonderful years of marriage, raising two sons and building a life filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories.
A consummate homemaker, Peggie took great pride in creating a warm and welcoming home. Her devotion to her family was evident in every meal she lovingly prepared and in the spotless sanctuary she maintained for her loved ones. Her sons, Greg and the late Jeff Pierce, were the light of her life, and she relished every moment spent nurturing and guiding them.
Peggie's life was rich with creativity and passion. She was an artist at heart, finding joy in painting ceramics, sewing, quilting, and gardening. She embraced the great outdoors, often camping and fishing with her family, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Peggie also delighted in the simple pleasure of shopping, always with an eye for something special for her loved ones.
A faithful member of Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church, Peggie's spirituality was a cornerstone of her life. Her faith provided her with strength and comfort, particularly during her most challenging times.
Peggie is predeceased by her parents, Mayme and Ralph Groomes, her beloved husband, Everette Pierce, her son, Jeff Pierce, her sister, Martha Jane Allen, and her two brothers, Timothy and Larry Groomes. She is survived by her loving son, Greg (Angie) Pierce, her grandson, Brandon (LaKota) Pierce, and great-grandchildren, Alivia, Hunter, and Levi, who were her pride and joy. Her dear friend, Penny Key, also remains to cherish Peggie's memory.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Hearth Hospice for their compassionate care during Peggie’s final days. Special thanks to Joanie, Nicole, Debbie, Ashley, Jane, Val, and Dr. Jeff Miller for their kindness and support.
A service celebrating Peggie's beautiful life will be held on at Jim Rush Wildwood Chapel, located at 220 Wildwood Avenue, Cleveland, Tennessee. As we gather to honor Peggie, we remember her as a woman of grace, warmth, and enduring love. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Forever in our hearts, she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
