Paula Jo Mitchell Calhoun

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paula Jo Mitchell Calhoun, who left this world on September 11, 2026. Born on May 11, 1955, in Talladega, Alabama, Paula was a beacon of love and faith whose life was a testament to her devotion to her family, her community, and her faith. Paula was the beloved daughter of Joe and the late Betty Paul Mitchell. She shared a deep bond with her father, Joe, who survives her, along with her siblings, Sherry Burke, Stan Mitchell, and Kim Chesire. Preceded in death by her mother, Betty, her husband of 41 years, Roger D. Calhoun, and her great-grandchild, Roger Cash Baccus, Paula's legacy continues through the lives of her surviving children, Tim Calhoun, Amy Bishop, and J.B. Calhoun. Her love extended to her cherished grandchildren, Zach, Alexis, Cameron, Abigail, Natalie, Carson, and Amelia-Claire, and her great-grandchildren, Dakota, Caleb, and Wesley, who were constant sources of joy and pride. Paula was an accomplished scholar, earning a Bachelor's of Science from The University of Alabama and a Double Masters of Theology from Emory University. She dedicated her career to serving others, both as an Executive Secretary for the Presbyterian Home for Children and as an Ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering, and she served her Savior, Jesus Christ, with a sincere and passionate determination until her final day. Paula found solace and expression in the art of reading and writing, with a particular love for calligraphy. She was known for her ability to honor others' stories, often shared over the simple pleasure of fresh ice with friends. Her family fondly remembers her warm spirit and her loving words, “I love you more,” a sentiment that encapsulates the boundless affection she held for those in her life. In honor of Paula's memory, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice or an organization that embodies her spirit of faith and service.
