July 1, 1962 — July 20, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul "Steven" Coots, who departed this world peacefully at his home, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife, Lillie, on July 20, 2026. Born in Hayden, Kentucky, on July 1, 1962, Steven touched the lives of those around him with his unwavering kindness and infectious smile. He leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever warm the hearts of all who knew him. Steven was a dedicated family man, cherished husband, and loving father. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Lillie, for 45 beautiful years, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and precious memories. Steven is survived by his beloved wife, Lillie Coots; his son, Steven Coots, and daughter-in-law, Nicole Schack; his daughter, Savanna Coots, and son-in-law, Kenny Ray Lewis; his treasured grandchildren, Macy Caldwell and Jacob Schack; his brothers, Elmer and Keith Coots; his sisters, Donna Wood, Shirley Baker, and Kathy Carroll; and his dear Aunt Ruth Coots. A proud veteran, Steven served in the US Navy for eight honorable years, demonstrating his commitment to his country with the same dedication he showed to his family. After his military service, Steven worked tirelessly in the coal mines for nearly 30 years, contributing to his community with hard work and integrity. Upon retiring, he embraced the role of a stay-at-home Papaw, delighting in the joy and laughter of his grandchildren. Steven's passions extended beyond his family and career. He was an avid hunter and a devoted gardener, often sharing the bounty of his garden with neighbors and friends. Known for always extending a helping hand to those in need, Steven's generous spirit and ever-present smile will be sorely missed. In addition to his parents, Paul and Pauline Coots, Steven was predeceased by his brothers, Malcomb and Earnest Coots. Though their loss was profound, Steven carried their memory with him throughout his life, honoring them in his actions and love for others. The family invites friends and loved ones to gather in celebration of Steven's life on July 25, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Walker Funeral Home, located at 155 Hickory St, Hyden, KY 41749. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of Steven's generous nature and commitment to helping others.
