Paul Scott Doty
November 7, 1958 — October 2, 2026
Paul Scott Doty, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, departed this world on October 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and joy of life. Born on November 7, 1958, to Marvin and Rebecca Doty, Scott was raised with strong values and a passion for life that he carried with him throughout his years.
Scott attended and graduated from Iowa Valley High School, where he formed friendships that would last a lifetime. Following high school, Scott dedicated a decade of his life to serving his country in the United States Air Force, from 1980 to 1990. As a Crew Chief, he was responsible for a machinery crew that maintained large equipment, a role that took him across the globe, including memorable visits to Guam and Australia.
In 2013, Scott's heart found its match in Amy York. Together, they shared a life filled with adventures, from road trips to garage sales and auctions. Their shared love for their many cats added warmth and joy to their home. Scott and Amy were married on June 5, 2025 and moved to their dream home. Their journey together was marked by love, companionship, and shared interests, creating a bond that was truly special.
Scott is survived by his children: Paul (Michelle) of Cedar Rapids, Eric of Tama, and Joel of Ladora. Scott also has ten grandchildren. Scott's family extended to his beloved mother, Rebecca of Williamsburg, and his siblings, Michael of Texas and Barbara (Dave) of Ely. He was predeceased by his father, Marvin Doty, his son, Adam, and his grandson, Adriann Michael, whose memories he cherished deeply.
A man of many passions, Scott found joy in outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, and racing. He was an avid collector, especially enjoying Magic: The Gathering and sports cards. His son Eric often joined him in playing Magic: The Gathering, creating cherished memories. Music played a central role in Scott's life; he was a talented bass guitarist with the band Meadowland, where he forged friendships that became like family. His large collection of guitars was a testament to his love for music.
Scott was a man who never met a stranger. His ability to find common ground with anyone he encountered endeared him to many and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life is planned for the spring of 2027 at the Ladora Pavilion, where music and fellowship will fill the air, just as Scott would have wanted.
