Paul Joseph Gaither

April 25, 1949 — June 19, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Joseph Gaither, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this world on June 19, 2026, at the age of 77. Paul passed away peacefully at his home in Sunnyside, Washington, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His unwavering strength and grace during this time was a testament to the incredible spirit that defined his life. Born on April 25, 1949, in Sunnyside, Washington, to Emmett George Gaither and Rosemary Wilma Hagerty Gaither, Paul was a beacon of kindness and resilience. He was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas, Richard, and George Gaither, with whom he shared countless childhood adventures and memories. Paul's early years were spent in the embrace of family and the open landscapes of Washington, where he cultivated a love for mechanics and the great outdoors. A proud alumnus of Grandview High School, class of 1967, Paul pursued his passion for automobiles further at the Lower Valley Auto Mechanical Technical School, graduating in 1972. His expertise and dedication to his craft led him to a successful career, beginning as a Service Manager at Tip Top Chevrolet in Fairbanks, Alaska, where his daughter, Christine, was born. For over 25 years, Paul was a dedicated and respected member of the Battelle team at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). His roles as a research millwright, craft supervisor, and building manager were marked by his exceptional work ethic and his ability to inspire those around him. Paul's colleagues remember him not only for his technical skill but also for his warm and generous spirit. On August 25, 1979, Paul married the love of his life, Karla Lambie, in Richland, Washington. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Paul was a devoted father to his children, Christine and Greg, and a proud grandfather to his beloved grandson, Seth. His family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. An avid fisherman, Paul found solace and joy in the tranquil waters of the Columbia River, where he would often be found casting his line for steelhead. His adventures took him to the bountiful waters of Alaska, where he delighted in the thrill of catching salmon and halibut. These moments of peace and reflection were a cherished part of Paul's life, shared with family and friends who joined him on these expeditions. Paul's life was celebrated in a private ceremony, honoring his wishes and respecting the intimate nature of his farewell. Though our hearts ache with his loss, we find comfort in the legacy of love, kindness, and strength that he leaves behind. His memory will forever remain a guiding light in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Paul's memory to a cancer research organization of choice, to honor his brave battle and to support others in their fight. Paul Joseph Gaither's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and community. As we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, we carry forward his legacy in our hearts, forever inspired by the kindness and warmth he shared with the world.
