December 18, 1934 — May 30, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Edwin Hull, Jr., who peacefully departed this life on May 30, 2026, at the age of 91, surrounded by the love of his family in his cherished home in Mount Airy, North Carolina. Born on December 18, 1934, in the same town that he lovingly called home throughout his life, Paul was the beloved son of the late Paul Edwin Hull and Mabel Thomas Hull, who preceded him in death.
Paul’s journey was marked by a deep devotion to family, friendship, and community. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Peggy Eades Hull, with whom he shared a remarkable life filled with love and cherished memories. Together, they built a family that was the center of Paul’s world, raising two children, Lisa Lankford (Don) of Asheville, NC, and Edwin Hull, who, along with his fiancée Angelika Wolfe, resides in Mount Airy, NC. Paul was a proud grandfather to Zachary Hull of Waynesville, NC, who carries forward his legacy of kindness and joy. Although he leaves no great-grandchildren, his influence and love will undoubtedly ripple through future generations.
Paul was a proud graduate of Mount Airy High School, and his career was dedicated to Central Telephone, where he worked tirelessly for many years before retiring in 1989. His professional life was marked by dedication and integrity, traits that also defined his extensive involvement in community organizations. A lifelong member of Rockford Street Methodist Church, Paul’s faith was a cornerstone of his life.
His involvement with Boy Scout Troop 538 was a source of immense pride and joy. As a Life Member, Paul was honored with the prestigious Order of the Arrow, Vigil Member, and the Silver Beaver award—testaments to his unwavering commitment and leadership. Raven Knob was more than a scouting location for Paul; it was a sanctuary where he built enduring friendships and shared his passion for scouting with three generations of his family. Known affectionately for his role on the cook crew, Paul’s warmth and camaraderie made everyone feel like family.
In his personal life, Paul was a man of many talents and interests. He found joy in the simplicity of tending to his garden, where he nurtured not only plants but also his soul. An avid woodworker, he crafted beautiful items that became treasured keepsakes for his family, each piece a testament to his love and skill.
Paul’s personality was as vibrant as his life was full. Known for his quick wit and memorable one-liners, he had an innate ability to make everyone feel at ease, never meeting a stranger in his many travels through life. His kindness and encouragement left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Paul’s life, in accordance with his wishes. Though the ceremony is intimate, the impact of Paul’s life will continue to be felt far and wide, as those who knew him carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and laughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Paul’s memory to Boy Scout Troop 538 or a charity of your choice, reflecting Paul’s lifelong commitment to service and community.
Paul Edwin Hull, Jr. will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His life was a testament to love, community, and family—a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace, forever in our hearts.
