Paul Edward Boykins

Paul Edward "Cut" Boykins, Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina. Born on November 27, 1948, in York County, South Carolina, Paul was a beacon of love, wisdom, and faith, leaving a profound impact on all who knew him. Paul was the beloved son of the late James Edward Boykins and Martha Jannie Boykins. A lifelong member of Unity African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Paul was deeply committed to his faith and community. His journey of learning began at Roosevelt School in Clover, South Carolina, followed by studies at Gaston College and Agape Bible College, where he immersed himself in theology. In August 1968, Paul answered the call of duty and was drafted into the United States Army. He completed his Basic Training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and served with distinction as a Senior Radio Repairman at Fort Benning, Georgia. His service to his country was marked by dedication and skill, particularly in electronics. Paul's work ethic was a testament to his character. From his early days working alongside his father on the family farm near Bowling Green, South Carolina, to his teenage years as a curb hop at the Howard Johnson Restaurant and as a school bus driver, Paul exemplified diligence and perseverance. His professional journey took him to various roles, including spot welder at Wix Corporation and positions at General Tire in Charlotte, North Carolina, and later in Washington, D.C. Despite life’s challenges, including a forced retirement due to illness, Paul remained active, contributing to Duke Power, assisting with his brother's Boiler Installation Company, and operating his own landscaping business. Paul's heart belonged to his family. His love for them was boundless, and he found joy in their company. He was a source of strength, wisdom, and laughter, treating everyone with kindness and respect. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Garris Sadler, and numerous siblings and relatives. His legacy continues through his devoted children: Carmen Sadler of Gastonia, North Carolina; Paul E. Sadler, Jr., of Gastonia, North Carolina; Victor Meeks (Sandy) of Columbus, Ohio; and Vincent Meeks (Landy) of Boise, Idaho. He also leaves behind four cherished grandchildren: Malcolm Meeks, Makayla Meeks, Cydni Meeks, and De'Morris Meeks; five great-grandchildren; and brothers Alfonso Sadler of Dover, Delaware, and Tommy L. Sadler, as well as John H. Sadler (Linda). A celebration of Paul's life will be held on August 1, 2026, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember a man whose spirit touched so many. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice. Paul Edward Boykins, Sr. will be deeply missed, but his memory and the love he shared will endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
