Paul Alan Sherrer, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, peacefully passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 73, surrounded by his loving family at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Born on December 21, 1952, in Dayton, Paul was the beloved son of Valeria Davis and Paul Alan Sherrer Sr., both of whom predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia Sherrer, brothers James and Robert Cunningham, nephew Zyi’Air Sherrer, aunts Diedra Ship and Janet, Mary Cunningham, uncles Ricardo Cunningham, Richard Cunningham, JuneBug, Shahonda Ship, Teryl Cunningham, David Cunningham, cousin Philip Cunningham, and if anyone was forgotten, our deepest condolences and apologies.
Paul is survived by his beloved son, Michael Woods, and his grandchildren, Trenace, Kaleb, and Devonte Woods, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, including Damisha Sherrer, Nicole Sherrer, Rachel Sherrer, Rayshawn Sherrer, Kendra Cunningham, Danielle Cunningham, Erica Cunningham, Jasmine Sherrer, Nyla, Nyair Sherrer, Jayla Sherrer, Ronel Rhodes, Dante Sherrer, and Darius Cunningham. His family chain extends to cousins like Stephanie Douglas and Melvin Cunningham, affectionately known as Poo Bear, and numerous friends who will miss him dearly.
Paul served his country with pride as a member of the U.S. Army for three years, a testament to his dedication and sense of duty. After his service, he pursued his passion for cooking, becoming a professional chef renowned for his culinary creativity and the "best peanut butter cookies in the world." His love for inventing things and growing aloe vera plants, which he used to create hair and skincare products, showcased his inventive spirit and nurturing nature.
Paul was a high school graduate who was known for his warmth, humor, and ability to make people laugh, smile, and dance. His vibrant personality and generous spirit touched everyone he met, leaving a legacy of joy and compassion.
Paul shared a deep and special friendship with Willa Mae, who stood by him through life's joys and challenges. Together, they created cherished memories, adding warmth and love to each other's lives.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Paul's life will be held on June 17, 2026, at 1:30 PM at Dayton National Cemetery. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Miami Valley Hospital for the exceptional care provided to Paul in his final days. As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we remember the laughter, love, and light he brought into our lives. Paul will truly be missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
