Patti Ackley

March 30, 1954 — June 18, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and enduring love that we announce the passing of Patti Ackley, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Patti departed from this world on June 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love that will be forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on March 30, 1954, in Binghamton, New York, Patti was a beacon of light and strength from the very start. She grew up surrounded by a large and loving family, and as she journeyed through life, she carried the values of compassion and generosity instilled in her by her upbringing. Patti graduated from Owego-Apalachin, and with a heart dedicated to caring for others, she found her calling as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Her years of service at Lourdes Hospital and Vestal Nursing Center were marked by her gentle touch and genuine care for her patients, many of whom regarded her as more than just a caregiver. Patti's love story with her late husband, Donald Ackley, was one of deep devotion and partnership. Married for 26 beautiful years, they shared countless memories and dreams. Though Donald preceded her in death, their love continued to be a guiding light for Patti and their family. Her family was the core of her universe, and she was the beloved matriarch of a large and vibrant clan. Patti is survived by her children, Richard Schrader (Michele Gardiner), Kristi Wetzelberg (Eric), David Carrico (Michelle Balcer), and Dustin Carrico. Her grandchildren, Nathan Wetzelberg (Laura), Abigail Wetzelberg (Kyle Youdas), Kaleb Schrader (Sage Poland), Molly Wetzelberg (Josh Fisher), Hailey Weeks, Breonna Schrader, and Logan Schrader, were her pride and joy, as were her great-grandchildren, Brantley Carr and Nevaeh Schrader. Each of them carries a piece of Patti's spirit within them. Patti also leaves behind her siblings, Richard (Mike) Darrah (Colleen), Debra Russell (Darrah), Dana Darrah, Steve Darrah (Pat), Thomas (Todd) Darrah (Susie), Jay Darrah, Doreen Gehret (Doug), Sue Moran (William), Denise Darrah, and Eric Darrah (Kat), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special nieces and nephews who were like children to her. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her special friend, Kathleen Ward, whose companionship brought joy to Patti's days. Patti's life was filled with simple pleasures that brought her immense joy. She had a penchant for the thrill of the casino, the anticipation of scratch-offs, and the serenity of the beach. Ever the treasure hunter, she loved rummage sales, and her mind was always sharp, tackling crossword puzzles with ease. Her collection of baby dolls was a testament to her nurturing spirit and love for all things pure and innocent. Her welcoming nature knew no bounds, and her home was a haven for anyone in need. Patti's bright smile could light up a room, and her gentle touch was a comfort to those around her. She was a woman of remarkable strength and grace, always extending a helping hand, and her kindness will continue to inspire us all. A service to celebrate Patti's life will be held on June 18, 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society, a cause close to her heart. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Broome Oncology, the Oncology floor at Wilson Hospital, and Guthrie Lourdes Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided. Though Patti has left this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to guide and comfort us. We find solace in knowing that she is reunited with her beloved Donald, and that her legacy of love and kindness lives on in each of us. Rest in peace, dear Patti. You will be forever missed and always cherished.
