Patsy Ruth Wilson, 82, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, North Carolina, surrounded by the love of her family. Patsy was born on July 17, 1943, in Arkhoma, Oklahoma, to David Whittaker and Helen Whittaker Smith. She was the second oldest of four children, growing up with an older brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister. From an early age, Patsy displayed a remarkable intellect, a strong voice, and a determination that would serve her throughout her life. A gifted singer, Patsy was an accomplished contralto and distinguished herself in college through her musical talent. She also excelled as a member of her college debate team, where her quick mind, eloquence, and passion for spirited discussion became evident. Her exceptional communication skills and leadership abilities helped her build a successful career with GTE, where she rose to top management positions before retiring after many years of dedicated service. Patsy was known not only for her professional accomplishments but also for the warmth she brought to those around her. She loved gathering family and friends around the table and was especially famous for her brisket, a meal many considered unmatched. She enjoyed lively conversations, thoughtful debates, and sharing stories, wisdom, and laughter with those she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, David Whittaker and Helen Whittaker Smith; her brothers, Charles Whittaker and Steve Smith; and her beloved daughter, Stephanie Wilson. Patsy is survived by her former husband, D.L. Wilson; her daughters, Heather (Brian) Flesner, Naida (Brett) Singleton, and Anne-Marlee Smith; her grandchildren, Kevin, Brandon, Ashley, Landon, Jared, Peyton, Barrett, Pey, Carly, and Abagail; and her sister, Jeanna (Mark) Goodman. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory. Patsy's life was marked by intelligence, determination, compassion, and an unwavering love for her family. Her voice—whether raised in song, conversation, or advocacy—left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. A memorial service celebrating Patsy's life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the National Park Service or to the American Heart Association's initiatives supporting women's heart health. Though she is no longer with us, Patsy's legacy of strength, kindness, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
