Patsy M. Braxton
January 6, 1953 — April 29, 2026
Richmond, Virginia – Patsy M. Braxton, affectionately known to many as "Peekay" and endearingly nicknamed "Frogger," passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her immediate family on April 29, 2026. Born in Richmond on January 6, 1953, she was a beloved daughter of the late Monroe and Eva Meade, Sr., and a cherished twin sister to Patricia Meade.
Patsy's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of love, resilience, and an unwavering zest for life. Her journey was marked by a profound dedication to caring for others, as evidenced by her varied career as a Nurse's Aide, Custodial Worker, Personal Caregiver, Security Officer, and OTR Truck Driver. Each role she embraced was infused with her characteristic warmth and unfaltering work ethic.
A soul deeply connected to the beauty of the world around her, Patsy found solace and joy in her hobbies. She was an avid fisherwoman, taking every opportunity to cast her line and enjoy the tranquility that nature offered. Her green thumb was legendary, nurturing plants with the same love and care she extended to everyone in her life. Patsy delighted in the quiet challenge of puzzles and word searches and shared her passion for music through her extensive album collection, favoring the soulful melodies of Etta James, the storytelling of Kenny Rogers, and the uplifting harmonies of Yolanda Adams.
Patsy’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unyielding strength. She was known for her quick wit and infectious smile, traits that endeared her to all who had the pleasure of crossing her path. A woman of integrity, she was never afraid to speak her mind when the moment called for it, making everyone feel at home with her welcoming spirit.
Her favorite color was blue, a hue that perhaps reflected the depth and calm she brought into the lives of those she loved. Patsy’s love for frogs was well-known, inspiring her nickname "Frogger," a testament to her playful nature and the joy she found in life's simple pleasures.
Patsy was preceded in death by her beloved son Jonathan Turner, her husband Nehemiah Braxton, her parents Monroe and Eva Meade, Sr., her brother Haywood Meade, and her sister Mary Frances Meade. Her memory will forever be cherished by her surviving family: her devoted daughter Sheila Artiga and son-in-law Oscar; her precious grandchildren, Khrystyna Kitt, and Johnathon Kitt, along with her granddaughter-in-love Cherlyndria Lancaster; and her adored great-grandchildren Eva Kitt-Artiga, Zephyr Lancaster, Jade Kelley, and Atlas Lancaster. She also leaves behind her twin sister Patricia Meade; her sisters Deloris Hembrick (Johnny) and Shellynne Hembrick; her brother Monroe Meade, Jr. (Jeannie); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will carry her spirit in their hearts.
In honoring Patsy's life, let us remember her not only for the roles she played but for the light she brought into every room, the laughter she shared, and the love that she so generously gave. Her departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but her legacy remains an indelible part of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Patsy's memory, a tribute to her generous spirit and her commitment to making the world a better place.
Rest in eternal peace, dear Patsy, in the arms of those who have gone before, until we meet again.
