With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Patsy Alyne Suell Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on May 11, 2026, at the age of 89. Patsy was born on March 5, 1937, in West Blocton, Alabama, to her loving parents, Ed Suell, Jr. and Alyne Brown Suell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ed Suell, Jr., and her sister, Mary Ruth Suell, all of whom she held close to her heart. Patsy was a beacon of joy and laughter, known far and wide for her quick wit and ready smile, always armed with a joke to lighten any heart. Her warmth and generosity created an atmosphere of love and welcome, making all who knew her feel like family. Her spirit was one that celebrated life, art, and the beauty of human connection. A proud alumna of West Blocton High School, Class of 1956, Patsy was a distinguished member of the National Honor Society. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to the University of Alabama, where she earned a Certificate in Early Childhood Development, a testament to her lifelong dedication to education and nurturing young minds. Patsy's career as an educator touched countless lives, and her stint as a hotel receptionist showcased her dedication to serving the public with grace and kindness. Her love for art, drawing, and painting was evident in every brushstroke and sketch, reflecting her inner joy and creativity. Above all, Patsy cherished time spent with her family and dear friends, who were the center of her universe. Patsy is survived by her loving children: son Tim Smith, daughter Debbie Smith Kitchens and her husband Steve, and son Patrick Smith. She was a proud grandmother to Cody Smith and his wife Rebecca, and the adoring great-grandmother of Kade and Kyson. Patsy leaves behind her brother, Jackson P. Suell, who, like many, will miss her dearly. Her close friends, Betty Moore, Lenora Sharp, Vickie Goggins, and Diana Wedgeworth, will forever hold her memory in their hearts. A celebration of Patsy's life will be held on May 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Cremation Center of Birmingham, Woodstock Chapel, located at 1013 Shady Oaks Ln, Woodstock, Alabama 35188. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Patsy's honor, reflecting her spirit of giving and community.
