Patricia Talley Newbold (née Moran), a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, surrounded by her family at Givens Highland Farms. Born on February 5, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Pat lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to others. She was the cherished daughter of Helen Alberta Brayton (née Orton) and John A. Moran of Washington, D.C. Pat's life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to education and her faith. She graduated from Central High School in Washington, D.C., and went on to earn her B.A. in Psychology from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond, Virginia. Her thirst for knowledge led her to further her studies with an M.A. from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education and an M.Ed. from the University of Virginia. Her career in education spanned decades, during which she made a lasting impact on countless students in Virginia and Florida. Pat served in Christian education, general education, and special education, offering support to students at all levels. Even after her retirement, she continued to contribute to academic and psychological student testing part-time, demonstrating her lifelong commitment to learning and teaching. Pat married Dr. Charles C. Talley on August 14, 1956, with whom she shared 50 beautiful years until his passing in 2006. She later found love once more with Dr. Jerry M. Newbold, whom she married in April 2008. Jerry remained her devoted partner until his passing in 2022. Together, Pat and Jerry nurtured their garden at Highland Farms, a beautiful testament to their shared love and memories. Her role as a minister’s wife saw her supporting congregations at Catoctin Presbyterian Church in Virginia and Meadows Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, among others. Pat was fondly remembered as the "first lady of Massanetta" during her time at Massanetta Springs Camp and Conference Center. In Black Mountain, NC, she continued her spiritual journey at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, where she and Jerry found a welcoming community. An enthusiast of flower arranging, Pat's creativity blossomed in the vibrant floral displays she crafted for church services. She found joy in arranging flowers even in her later years, a testament to her enduring creativity and zest for life. Her warmth and positivity were infectious, and she was known for her radiant smile and her pride in her family, whom she often introduced to friends at Highland Farms. Pat was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Dr. Charles C. Talley, sister-in-law Ann Carrier Green, and her second husband Dr. Jerry M. Newbold. She leaves behind a loving family who cherished her deeply: her son, Charles F. Talley (Marriette van der Sluijs), her daughter Katherine Talley Manning (Stevens), and her grandchildren Forrest and Lily Talley, and Claire, Alexander, and Jonathan Manning.
