October 11, 1955 — April 25, 2026

It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Patricia Dolan Ettus on April 25, 2026. Born on October 11, 1955, in Syracuse, New York, Patti was a beacon of warmth, love, and laughter whose presence graced all fortunate enough to know her. Patti was the cherished daughter of Thomas and Bernadine Dolan, who predeceased her. She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Douglas Edward Ettus, whom she married on September 4, 1982. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around family, love, and mutual respect. Patti leaves behind her beloved children, Ryan, married to Laura, and Megan, married to Brendan, as well as three treasured grandchildren: Eleanor, Yates, and Sophie. Her sisters, Peggy Love and Ellen Franks, also survive her, providing a testament to the enduring bonds of family. A proud alumna of Denbigh High School in Newport News, Patti graduated in 1974, and went on to earn a degree in Economics from Hollins College in Roanoke, VA. Her career began with the Burroughs Corporation, where she excelled in selling office computers, before moving into pharmaceutical sales with the Upjohn Company. In 1984, Patti and Doug returned to Newport News to nurture a family business, Career Development Center, a private career school dedicated to training future healthcare and administrative professionals. Later in life, she found joy working at the Williamsburg Regional Library, sharing her love for knowledge and community. Patti's heart was as expansive as her wanderlust; she traveled to all seven continents and sailed across all five oceans, always eager to learn and explore. Yet, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, whose laughter and curiosity she cherished above all. An active member of many community organizations, Patti's involvement with the Kingsmill Women's Social Club was particularly dear to her heart. Her faith was an integral part of her life as a member of St. Bede Catholic Church. Patti was known for her friendly demeanor and tireless work ethic. She was a natural leader, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, embodying the true essence of a friend. Her loss is deeply felt, yet her legacy of love, generosity, and kindness will forever inspire those she leaves behind. A service celebrating Patti's life will be held on May 15, 2026, at St. Bede Catholic Church, located at 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Patti's memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, an organization close to her heart. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Sentara Hospital Williamsburg for their compassionate care during Patti's final days. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest in peace, dear Patricia. Your journey was extraordinary, and your legacy of love will endure.
