Patricia Ann Rakes Jackson
June 29, 1945 — April 26, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Patricia Ann Rakes Jackson, who departed this world peacefully on April 26, 2026, after valiantly facing a second battle with cancer. Born on June 29, 1945, in Farmville, Virginia, Patricia navigated her 80 years with a warmth and generosity that touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born to Emmett and Norma Rakes, Patricia was the embodiment of kindness and resilience, qualities that were evident in her every action. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James (Jimmie) Jackson, with whom she shared many wonderful years, filled with laughter and love, as they raised their two cherished children, Roxanne Guido and James Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her sister Rosalee Fowler and brother David Rakes.
Patricia’s life was a tapestry of love, woven with threads of family, friendship, and community. Her surviving family includes her devoted daughter Roxanne Guido, son James Jackson, her loving sister Mary Schermerhorn, a host of nieces and nephews, and her dear fur babies, Ruffy, Foxy, and Princess, who brought her joy and comfort.
A dedicated employee until her retirement, Patricia worked as a deli manager at the Town and Country Supermarket in Goochland, Virginia. Her culinary talents were renowned, especially her homemade meals and beloved biscuits, which were enjoyed by many. Her kitchen was always a place of welcome, filled with the aroma of delicious food and the warmth of her hospitality.
In her leisure, Patricia found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of life. She loved fishing, though her love was more for the tranquility of the activity than the catch itself, often practicing "catch and release." An avid gardener, she tended to her plants with care, sharing the fruits of her labor generously with friends and family. Her green thumb was matched by her keen eye for collectibles, and she took delight in thrifting, amassing a charming collection of teapots, elephants, owls, and glass slippers.
Patricia was known for her ability to make everyone feel valued and welcome. Her forgiving nature and generous spirit left an indelible mark on countless lives. She lived a life full of grace and understanding, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand.
A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held on May 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home, located at 1400 South Main Street, Blackstone, Virginia. In honor of her generous spirit and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, an organization close to Patricia’s heart.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the caring and thoughtful staff of Hospice and Henrico Doctors emergency room for their compassionate acts of kindness during Patricia's illness and passing. Their support provided comfort during a difficult time, a testament to the community of love that surrounded Patricia throughout her life.
Patricia Ann Rakes Jackson will be remembered for her unwavering love, her infectious laughter, and her boundless generosity. Her spirit and legacy live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished forever.
