It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Patricia A. Windish Griggs, who departed this world on ----------- at the age of 9-. Born on October 18, 1933, in the charming town of Trivoli, Illinois, Patricia was the beloved daughter of Leo Windish and Irma Ramp Windish. Her journey through life was marked by Galva community events and enjoyment of family and friends.
Patricia, affectionately known as Pat, was a beacon of warmth and hospitality. She graduated from Galva High School in 1951 and briefly attended the University of Illinois, where she kindled her lifelong love for learning. On October 30, 1953, she married the love of her life, Paul Joe Griggs. Together, they shared 44 years of marriage until his passing.
Pat's professional life was as diverse as it was fulfilling. She began her career working alongside her father at the Windish Seed Mill, later contributing to Boss Manufacturing, and ultimately serving as a dedicated dispatch/clerk at the Rushville Jail. Her work reflected her strong work ethic and commitment to community service.
Pat was a vibrant and active member of several organizations, including the Galva Arts, quilt club, Home Extension, United Methodist Women's group, and PEO. Her passion for arts and crafts was evident in her exquisite quilts and handmade creations, which she lovingly shared with family and friends. Pat's hobbies extended to sewing, knitting, photography, and even water skiing on the Mighty Mississippi River, showcasing her adventurous spirit and zest for life.
A woman of deep compassion and kindness, Pat cherished her family above all. Her children, Paula Pepple (Ray) and Patrick Griggs (Linda), were the pride of her life, and her legacy of love continues through her seven grandchildren Michelle Warner (Matt), Joshua Pepple (Samantha) Margaret May (Matt) Abby Vladika (Tim) Jamie Munson (Dallas)Maggie Griggs and Emily Schreiber. In addition thirteen great-grandchildren Austin Veith, Brooklyn Pepple, Lucy Pepple, Reese Warner, Gage May, Jacob Schreiber, Paisley May, Colton Warner, and Kinzley Schreiber. Her sister, Marilyn Jarvis, and her beloved husband, Paul, predeceased her, but the memories they created together remain cherished by those who knew them.
The stories and activities shared with Pat by her friends and family were treasures she held dear. She loved a good cup of coffee with neighbors especially the Nordstrom's. Another passion was Bishop Hill and all the stores, events and history she ejoyed. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the many friends and loved ones who enriched Pat's life beyond measure.
A graveside service will be held to honor Patricia's life in Galva, Illinois, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved family. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we celebrate the indelible mark she left on our hearts and the world. Patricia A. Windish Griggs was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, whose spirit will forever inspire those who were lucky enough to know her.
