Patricia Kay McDermott

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Patricia Kay McDermott, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Born on August 16, 1952 in Osage, Iowa. Patricia left this world peacefully at Cornerstone Acute Care Hospital in Conroe, TX on July 29, 2026, after a courageous battle with end-stage COPD. Her enduring spirit and the love she shared continue to be felt by all who knew her. Patricia was the cherished daughter of James and Marian Balsley, both of whom predeceased her, along with her brother James and grandson Ryan McElroy. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Larry McDermott, whom she married on January 26, 1974, in Ionia, Iowa. Also surviving her are many cousins, nieces, nephews, and sister-in-laws: Marvene Funnell Bledsoe, Dell City, OK and Candace McDermott, Newton, IA. The family made their home in Apple Valley, MN for 32- years. In 2005, the newly retired couple moved to Montgomery, TX. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. Patricia was a proud and loving mother to her three children: Shannon McElroy of Burnsville, MN; Amanda Eannucci of Willis, TX; and Jeffrey McDermott of Plymouth, MN. Her legacy of love and kindness extends to her four grandchildren: Shania McElroy McGaha, Sara McElroy, and Mckenzie and Lilly McDermott, who brought immense joy to her life. A graduate of Marshall University High School in 1970, Patricia dedicated a decade as a stay-at-home mom, nurturing her family with warmth and care. Once her youngest child started school, Patricia embarked on a career in retail grocery, working in suburban stores around Minneapolis. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to her family and friends. Patricia was an avid golfer, spending 2-3 days a week on the green, even in her later years. She was a skilled bowler, serving as a league secretary and collecting numerous trophies. Her quick wit, warm smile, and ready humor were hallmarks of her personality, endearing her to all who crossed her path. Patricia had a rare gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, and her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on many lives. The family is deeply appreciative of the compassionate care provided by the staff at Cornerstone Acute Care Hospital. In lieu of flowers, they kindly request that donations be made to the American Lung Association in Patricia's memory. Patricia McDermott was truly one of a kind, a great companion to her husband Larry and a beacon of love to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
