Paten Smith

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Paten Smith, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Paten departed this life on May 26, 2025, at Jackson Hospital. He was born on March 18, 1954, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late James Nelson and Elizabeth Smith. Paten was a man who dedicated his life to service, both in his professional endeavors and personal commitments. He served his country with honor in the United States Army, embodying the values of courage and dedication. After his military service, Paten spent 30 years as a construction worker, contributing to the foundations of his community with the same strength and reliability that characterized his life. A man of remarkable warmth and kindness, Paten was known for his loving and caring spirit. He had an innate ability to make those around him smile, a gift he shared generously with family and friends. Paten’s life was a testament to the power of joy and compassion, and he enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. Paten’s legacy is carried on by his loving children: Paten Smith Jr., Brian Smith, Patrick Smith, and Yakira Smith. His memory will also be cherished by his ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life and the proud continuation of his lineage. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Derrick Smith, who held a special place in his heart and whose memory Paten treasured throughout his life. Outside of his commitments, Paten found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time with family and friends. His laughter and the warmth of his presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Paten's life, in accordance with his family's wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish to honor Paten's memory consider acts of kindness or donations to a charitable organization of their choice, reflecting the giving spirit that defined Paten's life. Paten Smith leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and enduring spirit. While his physical presence is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be missed beyond measure.
