Pastor William "Bill" Pierson

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Pastor William "Bill" Pierson, who departed this world peacefully on July 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving daughter and family at his home. Born on February 13, 1941, in Queens, New York, Bill was the beloved son of Harry Pierson and Ann McGrath. Pastor Bill was predeceased by his parents, John and Ann Richards, and his four brothers, Harry Pierson, Jack Richards, Donald Richards, Kenneth Richards, and Thomas Richards. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn, with whom he shared a deep and abiding love since their marriage in September 1998. Bill leaves behind his cherished children: Nanette Turner of St. Augustine, FL, William "Bill" Pierson II of Waynesboro, TN, and Darleen Sutton of Jacksonville, FL. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren and a loving great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren. His extended family also includes numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends in Bradenton, FL. Bill's journey through life was marked by a commitment to service, education, and faith. He graduated from Arlington High School in Pleasant Valley, NY, and furthered his education at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, NY. His dedication to his country was exemplified by his service in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class from 1959 to 1963, where he was stationed in the Philippines and Libya, North Africa. Following his military service, Bill embarked on a distinguished career. He worked for Grumman from 1963 to 1965 and then joined IBM, where he contributed until 1992. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the Apollo Lunar Modules from Apollo 5 to Apollo 11, collaborating with NASA on their extraordinary missions. Bill was also a 3rd Degree Black Belt and instructor for WTKDA from 1980 to 1995, sharing his passion and expertise with others. In 2001, Bill and Carolyn founded JOY Fellowship, where they ministered to countless individuals in assisted living facilities, providing spiritual guidance and companionship. As a Chaplain to the men and women of the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, Bill's compassion and leadership were a source of strength and comfort to many. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid tinkerer, particularly with electrical gadgets, and enjoyed traveling with Carolyn. Together, they embarked on numerous cruises and cherished trips to Maine. Bill's sense of humor was infectious; he delighted in making others laugh and had an uncanny ability to connect with people, drawing them in with warmth and genuine friendship. As a father, Bill was passionate about instilling values of morality, compassion, and citizenship in his children. He encouraged them to explore the world and embrace the joy of learning. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, Bill showered his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with boundless love, creating cherished memories that will endure for generations. A service to celebrate Pastor Bill's life will be held on August 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Craig's Memorial Park, located at 2600 Old Moultrie Rd., Saint Augustine, FL 32086. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Vitas Healthcare of St. Augustine for their compassionate care, as well as to Heritage Baptist Church on Wildwood and Good News Church-Wildwood for their spiritual support. Special thanks to family and friends in Bradenton and St. Augustine for their unwavering support during this journey. Pastor Bill Pierson's legacy of love, faith, and laughter will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
