April 4, 1940 — July 26, 2016

It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of our beloved P T Varkey, who departed this world peacefully on July 26, 2016, at the age of 76. Born on April 4, 1940, in the quaint village of Thuruthissery, Varkey lived a life of genuine compassion and unwavering dedication to his family, community, and faith. Varkey was the cherished son of the late Thomas and Mariyamma and was predeceased by his parents and his dear younger sister, Mary. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Aleyamma, his devoted son Tony, his cherished daughter Tiny, and his siblings Jose and Achamma. Varkey was also the proud grandfather to four precious grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his later years. A bright and eager student, Varkey completed his education at Mar Athanasius Higher Secondary School in Nedumbassery. Following his academic achievements, he embarked on a distinguished career as an officer at Chartered Bank in Doha, which later became Standard Chartered Bank. With a career spanning over 25 years, Varkey was a dedicated employee whose work ethic and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Varkey’s life was a testament to his deep faith in Jesus and his commitment to serving others. A founding member of the first church in Doha, he served diligently as a sexton and later dedicated his talents to the Mar Sabor and Mar Afroth Church in Akaparambu, contributing to its governing committee post-retirement. Additionally, he shared his wisdom and guidance as a teacher at Mor Sabor Afroth Simhasana Church in Thuruthissery, where he inspired many young minds. Known for his quiet generosity, Varkey was a benefactor to many underprivileged students, sponsoring their education without seeking recognition or praise. His humility and kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew him, and his legacy of selfless service will continue to inspire and uplift. Varkey’s journey ended after a brief struggle with liver cirrhosis, but the love and memories he leaves behind will endure forever in the hearts of his family and friends. In keeping with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony was held to honor his life and bid farewell to a truly remarkable soul. As we remember and celebrate P T Varkey’s life, we are reminded of the virtues of humility, faith, and generosity he embodied so beautifully. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a guiding light for all who knew and loved him.
