Ovelia Ann Meaux

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ovelia Ann Meaux, affectionately known to her loved ones as "MoMo," "Meaux," and "Annie." Ovelia passed away on June 16, 2026, at North Oaks Hospital in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, at the age of 72. Her life, cherished by many, began on August 27, 1953, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Ovelia was the beloved daughter of Azidore Meaux and Mabel Mathews Meaux, both of whom preceded her in death. Her siblings, Patsy Granger, Mae Meaux, Joh B Meaux, and Burtran Meaux, welcomed her into heaven, where they are now joyously reunited. She leaves behind her dear sister Edolia Marie Hanks, her brother Daniel Meaux, and her devoted nephews Rodney Long and Ray Long. Ovelia was also blessed with a host of nieces and nephews, who will always remember her as their favorite aunt. Ovelia's life was one of simplicity and joy, enriched by the bonds of family and friendship. She never married nor had children of her own; instead, she poured her love and affection into her extended family, becoming a cherished and central figure in their lives. Her warmth and humor were infectious, making her the heart of family gatherings and a treasured presence in the lives of all who knew her. In her working life, Ovelia was known for her dedication and hard work. She honed her skills as a butcher at the Nicholson Loop grocery store and later served her community as a taxi cab driver for Westbank Cab Company. Ovelia also found a sense of community and camaraderie in her membership with the American Legion Hall in Westwego, Louisiana. Ovelia found great joy in spending time with her family, dancing through the nights, and playing bingo with her friends. Her laughter and light-hearted spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. In her final days, Ovelia remained true to her wishes, passing peacefully without the aid of machines. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at North Oaks Hospital, PAM and Heritage Healthcare, who provided her with comfort and dignity in her last moments. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ovelia's memory to a charity of your choice. Ovelia Ann Meaux's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and friendship. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched, forever cherished and never forgotten.
