August 12, 1949 — August 17, 2026
Otis Alfred Moody, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on August 12, 1949, in the humble town of Shaw, Mississippi, Otis was the son of the late James Moody Sr. He grew up in the Delta, where he attended Greenville Elementary School, laying the foundation of a life filled with warmth, laughter, and dedication.
In the mid-1970s, Otis moved to St. Louis, Missouri, joining his older brother Henry to begin a career in hospitality at St. Mary's Hospital. His work spanned over four decades, marked by an unwavering commitment to excellence and a genuine care for those around him. The relationships he built with coworkers and guests were a testament to his character and the joy he brought into the lives of others.
Otis's personal life was rich with love and laughter. Known for his quick wit and warm smile, he was always ready with a joke to lift spirits. His unique style and gift for dancing turned any gathering into a celebration. He cherished his family above all else and found immense joy in the company of his children: Christina Moody Bruce of Tallahassee, Florida, Otis Moody, Donyella Smith Baker, and Brandi Negron (Edmund), all from Minneapolis, Minnesota. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren—Alexander Baker, Amiyah Negron, Obadiah Negron, and Nehemiah Negron—and his great-grandchild, Phoenix Bruce.
Otis is also survived by his two loving sisters, Gloria (Marcus) Booker of Dallas, Texas, and Georgetta Taylor of Greenville, Mississippi, as well as a host of nieces and nephews who adored him dearly. His presence was a source of strength and joy to his family and all who knew him.
In memory of Otis Alfred Moody, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice in his honor. His life was a testament to kindness, laughter, and resilience, and his spirit will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.
