Oscar Ray Macon, born on July 18, 1939, in Atoka, Oklahoma, to Corene Harrison and SJ Macon, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026. A remarkable man whose life was a testament to kindness, generosity, and love, Oscar leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. Oscar graduated from Madera High School in 1955, and shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served his country with honor before being discharged and continuing his education at Long Beach City College. Throughout his professional career, Oscar managed a major grocery store and ran his own catering business, among various other endeavors, until health concerns led to his retirement. On August 29, 1963, Oscar married the love of his life, Jeanetta Macon. Together, they built a beautiful family that included their three sons and Jeanetta's four children. For 57 years, their marriage was filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Oscar was predeceased by his sons Marion Steve Macon and Neil Macon, his stepchildren Tristi Brown and Herman Brown, as well as cherished grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is survived by his beloved grandson, Neil Jr. Macon, and his close friends Ron Kentish, Feleti Ngan Woo, and Bonnie. An avid fisherman, Oscar found joy in spending time with his son Neil, grandson Neil Jr., and friends. He also attended luncheons with his son Steve and daughter-in-law Maile. He also participated in a social club called the Fanatics, where he delighted in playing cards and dominos, often lightening the mood with his quick wit and warm laughter. His travels to Reno and breakfast gatherings with friends Ron and Feleti were among his favorite pastimes. Oscar also enjoyed local casino runs with his dear friends Al and Bonnie. Known for his gift of making everyone feel welcome and valued, Oscar touched countless lives with his kindness and generosity. His jokes and laughter brought joy to many, and his legacy of warmth will remain in the hearts of those who knew him. A service celebrating Oscar's life will be held on October 28, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn, located at 1500 E San Antonio Dr, Long Beach, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Oscar’s generous spirit. Oscar will be dearly missed but forever remembered by his family and friends, who were blessed to have shared in his remarkable life.
