Oral M Long, Jr
April 27, 1942 — March 10, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Oral M Long, Jr, who left this world peacefully on March 10, 2026. Born on April 27, 1942, in Fremont, Nebraska, Oral was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
Oral was the cherished son of the late Oral M Long Sr and Lillie Carriger. He grew up in Fremont alongside his dear sisters, Helen and Evelyn, and was a proud graduate of Fremont High School, class of 1959. Following high school, Oral answered the call to serve his country, joining the US Navy. He served with honor on active duty from 1960 to 1962, followed by two years in the reserves.
In July 1968, Oral's life took a beautiful turn when he met Glenda, the love of his life. They were married on January 24, 1970, and recently celebrated 56 years of devoted companionship. Together, they raised three sons, instilling in them the values of love, respect, and integrity.
Oral's career as a machinist took him from Crib & Silo to Nebraska Engineering and Railcar Specialties, where he was known not only for his craftsmanship but also for his camaraderie. After retirement, Oral's passion for bowling led him to work at several Omaha area bowling alleys, where he shared his love for the sport with others.
A man of faith, Oral was a dedicated member of Saint Michael's Lutheran Church for 35 years, where he was actively involved in the Older Wiser Lutherans group. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through times of joy and challenge alike.
Oral's zest for life was evident in his many hobbies. An avid bowler, he delighted in coaching junior bowlers, his sons, and grandchildren. Sports were a family affair, and he cherished the times spent coaching his sons in baseball and attending Kansas City Royals games.
Known for his quick wit and infectious humor, Oral was a jokester at heart, bringing laughter and light to all who knew him. He embraced everyone with kindness and acceptance, embodying the love he held for his family and God.
Oral is survived by his devoted wife, Glenda; his sons, Travis and Troy; and his grandchildren, Lee (Jennifer), Scott (Nikki), Trent (Ashley), Travis (Hope), Tara, Tyler, Jordin, and Dylan. He was also blessed with 23 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
He is predeceased by his parents, Oral Sr and Lillie, his son Tim, his sisters Helen and Evelyn, and brother-in-laws Gill and Elmer, each of whom he held dear in his heart.
The family extends their profound gratitude to the friends and family who offered unwavering support through calls and visits over the past six months. A special thank you is given to the compassionate staff at Crown Pointe Assisted Living, Haven Hospice, and Old Mill Rehab for their exceptional care during Oral's final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Oral's memory to Saint Michael's Church or Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church Food Pantry, organizations close to his heart.
Oral's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created and the values he imparted will live on, guiding his family and friends through the days ahead.
