Ora "Dusty" Royer

Ora "Dusty" Royer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully departed this life on August 2, 2026, at his cherished home, surrounded by the love of his life, Jan, and his devoted family. Born on January 16, 1937, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Dusty was the son of Ora Royer and Edna Mae Royer, who predeceased him along with his sister, Edna Mae Caenen. Dusty's life was a tapestry of love, service, and passion. He and his dear wife, Janice Van Horn Royer, were joined in matrimony on August 20, 1960. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home in St. Louis and later St. Peters, where they joyously raised their family over 66 years. Dusty is survived by his loving wife Jan, his children Jeff, Jennifer, and Greg Royer, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness. His grandchildren, Janice (Ira) Shepherd, Rob Royer, Jamie (Dylan) Hiatt, Kyle (Julia) Royer, Matt (Kayla) Royer, Andrew Royer, Braeden Royer, and Chase Royer, along with his great-grandchildren, Arianna Hiatt, Ellie Miller, Caenan Hiatt, Jeffrey Hiatt, and Macklin Royer, will forever cherish the memories of their time with him. A man of integrity and dedication, Dusty graduated with a degree in Business and embarked on a distinguished career in law enforcement. He served on the police forces of St. Louis County and St. Johns, and was a founding member of the Chesterfield Police Department in June 1989. Detective Ora (Dusty) Royer's commitment to justice and community safety was further exemplified through his involvement with the International Homicide Investigators Association, Major Case Squad, Critical Incident Stress Management, and the Center for Missing and Exploited Children. His service extended beyond his professional life, as Dusty proudly served in the Army National Guard. His deep respect for veterans was evident in the way he proudly flew the American flag, a symbol of his unwavering patriotism. Dusty's interests were as diverse as they were profound. His first passion was the joy and activities of his family. An avid numismatist, Dusty's extensive knowledge of coins and paper money made him a respected member of the American Numismatic Society and the International Bank Note Society. He founded the Foreign Coin Club and ran a successful business, "Notes of Note," which continues to thrive globally. Through his love for numismatics, Dusty and Jan formed lasting friendships that enriched their lives. A fervent sports enthusiast, Dusty was a season ticket holder for the St. Louis Blues since 1972. His dedication was rewarded when he witnessed the Blues' triumphant Stanley Cup victory in 2019, fulfilling a lifelong dream. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Dusty to Critical Incident Stress Management, an organization that reflects his enduring commitment to community and support for those who serve. Dusty Royer's legacy of love, service, and passion will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew him. His life was a testament to the power of dedication and the beauty of a life well-lived.
