Opal Mae Gorman

September 22, 1938 — October 30, 2026

In loving memory of Opal Mae Gorman, we gather to celebrate a remarkable life lived with grace, warmth, and an unwavering love for family and community. Opal was born on September 22, 1938, in the picturesque Rhud County, Arkansas, to her cherished parents, Margie and William Duncan. She was a beacon of light to all who knew her, and her journey through life was one of steadfast devotion and faith. Opal's life was a testament to love and partnership, as she shared 64 wonderful years with her beloved husband, Gerald (Jerry) Gorman Sr., whom she married in 1957. Together, they embarked on a life full of adventure and moved across the world as Gerald served in the U.S. Army for two decades. Eventually, they settled in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, where they cultivated a rich tapestry of friendships and memories. A proud graduate of Tonkawa High School, class of 1956, Opal poured her heart into her greatest vocation—being a dedicated wife, mother, and the cornerstone of her family. Her love and nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of her children, Joyce Unruh and her husband John, and Gerald (Jerry) Gorman Jr. and his wife Rayla. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Clayton Unruh, Andrea Lavine, and Zachary Unruh, and her adored great-grandchildren, Leonard and Sydney Lavine. Opal was predeceased by her parents and her dear husband, Jerry Sr., yet she leaves behind a loving family, including her siblings Dorothea White, Roy Duncan, and Philip Duncan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. Her presence was a source of joy and comfort to all who knew her. Opal's community involvement was a reflection of her generous spirit. She was an active member of the Garden Club in Fairland, participated in bowling leagues in both Tonkawa and Fairland, and was a devoted member of the Christian Church in Tonkawa. Her social gatherings, particularly the monthly game nights with family and friends, were moments of joy and connection. Her creativity shone brightly in her hobbies; she was an exceptional quilter, crafting intricate and beautiful quilts that will be cherished for generations. Opal also collected hummingbird items, solving jigsaw and crossword puzzles with enthusiasm. Opal's life was guided by her strong faith, which saw her through the challenges she faced, including her brave battle with lung and bone cancer. Her family takes solace in the belief that she is now at peace with her Heavenly Father, free from pain and illness. As we remember Opal, we are reminded of her vibrant spirit and the love she shared with all those around her. Her family holds dear the countless memories from holiday gatherings and vacations, moments that will be cherished and shared for years to come. In Opal's honor, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Opal Mae Gorman's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and faith. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her legacy and the love she shared will forever be etched in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
