Opal Garner, a beloved cornerstone of her family and community, passed away peacefully at her home on June 24, 2026. Born on August 5, 1928, in the serene landscapes of Randolph County, Opal was the cherished daughter of the late Cash Allen Bowman and Pearl Allred Bowman. Her life was a testament to the virtues of kindness, service, and unwavering love for family and friends.
Opal was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jack Garner; her parents, Cash and Pearl Bowman; her brother, JC Bowman; and her sister, Becky. Despite these profound losses, she continued to embody resilience and grace, traits that defined her long and fruitful life.
A proud graduate of Randleman High School, Opal embarked on a fulfilling career with Duke Power, where she worked diligently until her retirement. Her dedication extended beyond professional realms as she became an active member of the Cedar Square Friends Meeting. There, she found a spiritual home and cultivated lifelong friendships grounded in shared faith and community outreach.
Opal's commitment to service was unwavering. She volunteered steadfastly at the St. Paul Historical Society, contributed her efforts to the Duke Retirees Volunteers, and was a familiar, welcoming face at the polls, where she served her community with dedication and integrity.
Her love for nature was evident in her flourishing gardens, where vibrant blooms spoke of her tender care and artistry. Known for her exceptional cooking and canning, Opal shared her culinary talents with family and neighbors alike, creating meals that were as comforting as they were delicious.
She is survived by her loving children: son Gary Garner and his wife Dot, and daughter Collette and her husband Mark. Her legacy shines brightly through her grandchildren—Page Garner (Stephanie), Cole Garner (Monica), Madison Bloomquist (Brad), and Frankie Williamson (Kyle)—and her great-grandchildren Celicia Garner, Cash Garner, Evan Garner, Levi Garner, Everly Garner, Quinn Bloomquist, Hallie Williamson, and Jack Bloomquist. Her beloved siblings, Allen, Cliff, and Maurice Bowman, and sister Florence, also carry forward her memory.
Opal's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice and caregivers who attended to her with compassion and dignity in her final days.
A service to celebrate Opal's remarkable life will be held on June 30, 2026, at Randolph Memorial Park. Family, friends, and all those whose lives Opal touched are welcome to gather in remembrance of her enduring spirit and the love she shared so generously.
In honoring Opal Garner, we remember a life beautifully lived, a heart that welcomed all, and a legacy that will continue to inspire and nurture the generations that follow.
