Oneta S. Harper

September 7, 1958 — October 26, 2026

Oneta S. Harper, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and kindness. Born on September 7, 1958, in Buchannan, WV, Oneta was the beloved daughter of Gladys Rosalie Harper Osborne and Laird P. Osborne, who predeceased her. Oneta grew up in Webster County, where she attended local schools and cultivated a lifelong passion for learning. She expanded her knowledge through the study of herbalism, chemistry, and biology, continuously seeking to broaden her horizons. Her curiosity and thirst for knowledge were a testament to her vibrant spirit. A woman of many talents, Oneta was a truck driver by trade, navigating the open roads with determination and skill. In her spare time, she was also a talented baker, crafting delicious treats that brought joy to family and friends. Her hobbies included baking, candle making, and gardening, which she pursued whenever her health allowed. Oneta particularly loved fine needle crocheting, and her true passion lay in reading books of all kinds, constantly feeding her inquisitive mind. Oneta was a unique individual who gracefully fulfilled her tasks while managing the challenges of Multiple Sclerosis. She cared deeply for her grandchildren—Raelynn, Jasmyne, and Michael Phillips Jr.—showering them with love and affection. Oneta cherished quiet moments, finding comfort in solitude, yet her warmth extended to caring for stray animals whenever possible. Her family, including her children Alinor Phillips and husband Michael Phillips, and Kimmie Studdard of Arkansas, along with her sister Anita Dale Mccollam and husband Thomas, were central to her life. She took great pride in her role as a grandmother to her three adored grandchildren, who were her greatest joy. Oneta's extended family, including Greta and Max Gray, Dora Dicus, and many cousins and friends, will remember her fondly. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the in-home caregivers and Kevin at the Randolph Funeral Home for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Special thanks to Keith Shannon, David and Kimmie Bialecki, and many others who stood by Oneta during her challenging moments, providing help and companionship. Oneta's sense of humor and love for family gatherings, often accompanied by coffee and brownies, will be deeply missed. Even during tough times, such as being evicted just weeks before her passing, she remained optimistic about the future. Her strength and positive outlook were an inspiration to those around her. In honor of Oneta's memory, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting her generous and caring spirit. Oneta S. Harper, lovingly known as "Skysie," leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering kindness. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest in peace, dear Oneta, free from pain and worry, surrounded by eternal love.
