September 30, 1949 — May 17, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Olen Terry Joyner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on May 17, 2026, at the age of 76. Olen was born on September 30, 1949, in the quiet town of Purley, Texas, to the late Elmer and Lorene Joyner.
Olen proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His courage and devotion to duty exemplified the spirit of a true patriot, and his service to the nation remains a testament to his unwavering commitment to defending the freedoms we hold dear.
Olen embarked on a successful career with the Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA), where he dedicated over
25 years of service.
Olen's heart, however, found its true home with his cherished family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Carolyn, whose unwavering love and partnership were the cornerstones of his life. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, raising two wonderful children, Terry Joyner, who shares his life with wife Camillia, and Tammy Montee, who cherishes her days with husband Lance.
The joys of Olen's life were multiplied through his grandchildren—Ashton and Corbin Joyner, and Nicholas and Nathaniel Montee—who brought him boundless happiness and pride. Olen's legacy will forever live on through them, as they embody the values and love he so generously imparted.
Olen was a man of many passions. He found solace and satisfaction in the great outdoors, spending countless hours fishing and hunting. His hands were gifted with the ability to create, as he built and crafted everything he set his mind to. Olen's garden was a testament to his nurturing spirit, as he lovingly tended to his peppers, tomatoes, and grapes, sharing the fruits of his labor with those he loved.
A dedicated member of the Southside Christian Church, Olen's faith was a guiding light in his life. His commitment to his faith and community was evident in his active participation and service, providing support and kindness to those in need.
Olen was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lorene Joyner, and his sister, Ozena Davis. He is survived by his sister, June Lloyd, who shared many cherished memories and a lifelong bond with Olen.
As we bid farewell to Olen, we remember a life well-lived—filled with love, laughter, and boundless generosity. His spirit will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us as we strive to honor his legacy.
