It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Norman Wright, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the legal community, who left this world peacefully in Wellington, Florida, on October 6, 2026. Born on September 5, 1939, in the vibrant city of Kingston, Jamaica, Norman blossomed into a remarkable man whose legacy will be cherished by all who knew him.
Norman was the cherished son of Oliver and Doris Wright, both of whom predeceased him, along with his brothers Lloyd, Byron, Anthony (“Tony”), and Gladstone. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dollton June Lyttle Wright, his loving sisters Elaine (“Cutie”) and Tita, his treasured son Christopher, and his adored granddaughter Nyah, who brought immense joy to his life.
A man of intellect and integrity, Norman graduated from St. George’s College in 1957 and was called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn in 1964. His legal career spanned over three decades of private practice, during which he was revered not only for his legal acumen but also for his mentorship and dedication to the profession. In 2000, Norman was appointed Queen’s Counsel, later known as King’s Counsel, a testament to his exceptional contributions to the field.
His distinguished career culminated in his appointment as Chairman of the Industrial Disputes Tribunal in 2009, a role he fulfilled with honor until his retirement in 2016. His work at the tribunal was marked by fairness, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to justice, attributes that earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and colleagues.
Norman was a man of many facets. His wit and articulate nature made him an excellent host and a delightful conversationalist. Known for his keen sense of humor, he was a gentleman who was both firm and warm, embodying a discipline that inspired those around him. Beyond his professional achievements, Norman found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid reader and golfer, and he relished the experiences of traveling, which broadened his horizons and enriched his soul.
His faith was an integral part of his life, and he was a cherished member of St. Richards Catholic Church, Temple of Light, and Stella Maris Catholic Church. His spiritual journey was one of deep reflection and connection, and he found solace and community within these congregations.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Norman’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to organizations close to Norman’s heart, reflecting his enduring commitment to justice and community service.
