In Loving Memory

Norman Theodore Letzring
July 20, 1931 — September 29, 2026
Today, we gather to remember and celebrate the life of Norman Theodore Letzring, who passed away on September 29, 2026, at the remarkable age of 95. Norman lived a long and full life, one marked by service, hard work, dedication and most importantly, a deep and abiding love for his family.
Born on July 20, 1931 in North Dakota, Norman carried his roots and his family connections with him throughout his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He also held a special place in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews, from North Dakota to Washington and Minnesota. Family was never just a part of Norman’s life, it was at the center of it.
Norman proudly served his country, enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1950 and serving through 1958. During that chapter of his life he met the love of his life, Mae Ann Ganten. Their story was one of love and commitment and after meeting Mae Ann Norman went on to serve in the United States Army from 1960 through 1963.
Following his military service, Norman continued to demonstrate the dedication and strong work ethic that defined him. He worked as a glazier for the Tacoma School District for many years until his retirement.
But retirement didn't mean slowing down for Norman. Being the craftsman that he was, Norman took great pride in the exceptional machine shop he built, a place where he could spend hours doing what he loved best: tinkering, creating, and figuring out how to make things work. His working steam engine models were a particular source of pride, reflecting his patience, skill, ingenuity and attention to detail. He was more than a hobbyist ~ he was a builder, a problem-solver and a man who found satisfaction in turning an idea into something real.
Through his involvement in a local model steam engine club Norman shared his passion with others who appreciated the same craftsmanship and creativity.
Norman also remained proud of his military service and he continued his connection with fellow veterans by being a member of both AMVETS and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His service to his country was an important part of his story and something we remember with gratitude and respect.
