With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of Norman Hiawatha Linsy, a truly remarkable man whose presence could light up any room he entered. Born on September 2, 1947, in Yorktown, Arkansas, to loving parents, Corine Filyaw Linsy and NH Linsy, he lived a life marked by hard work, laughter, love, and unforgettable charm.
Hiawatha came to California in 1964 to live with his uncle Paul Revere Linsy (Uncle Spurgeon) and his aunt, Lee Ethel Linsy at the age of 17 where he worked at the family store, Stan’s grocery in North Richmond
Hiawatha was known for his charismatic spirit, quick wit, and kind heart. He never met a stranger, and wherever he went, people were naturally drawn to his warmth, humor, and good nature. His smile, laughter, and larger-than-life personality brought joy to countless lives. He was the kind of man everyone loved to be around — a shining light whose presence made every gathering brighter.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Hiawatha built a life through perseverance and determination. In his younger years, when he grew his family, he worked at C&H Sugar and Richmond Sanitary Services before pursuing his entrepreneurial dream as a successful painting contractor, Linsy Painting and Decorating. Through his work, he not only provided for his family but also built a legacy of dedication and pride.
Above all, Hiawatha was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Geraldine Linsy, his children, Norman Hiawatha Linsy Jr, Marilyn Marie Linsy and Norman Laverne Linsy. Sisters Shirley Thompson, Emma Norton (deceased ), Deloise Robinson, Ruby Grey, Marilyn Howard, Sandra Linsy, Marie Suell and Evelyn McDonald; Brothers AC Linsy, JC Spivey (deceased), AD Linsy (deceased), TC Linsy (deceased), CD Linsy (deceased); Grandchildren Noelle Linsy, Gillian Linsy, Jonathan Coates, Noria Linsy, Quentyn Linsy and Brandyn Hammond and a host of great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that his love, laughter, and unforgettable spirit will live on in all who knew him. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and joy — a life well lived and deeply cherished.
“A great man may leave this world, but the light he shared will never fade.”
