It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Norman E. Dierkes, who departed this life on May 14, 2026, at the age of 76. Norman was born on July 1, 1949, in the charming town of Marengo, Illinois, to the late Ruth and John Dierkes. He was a loving son, devoted husband, cherished father, and a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather. Norman's life was a tapestry woven with dedication, service, and love. After completing his education as an honor student in computer engineering, he served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps for 15 years, a tenure marked by courage and resilience. During his service, Norman earned a Purple Heart, a testament to his bravery and sacrifice. He often spoke of the deep bonds formed with his fellow Marines, many of whom he considered brothers. The stories of his service were filled with both pride and the solemn remembrance of friends lost. In 1974, Norman married his soulmate, Shirley R. Dierkes, with whom he shared 47 beautiful years until her passing. Together, they built a loving home and raised three daughters, Jennifer, Cindy, and Brenda. Norman's family was his greatest treasure, and he devoted himself tirelessly to their well-being. His legacy continues through his children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the values he instilled in them. Norman's professional journey as a computer engineer was marked by excellence and innovation. His career spanned over four decades, during which he consistently pushed the boundaries of technology. His colleagues remember him not only for his technical acumen but also for his mentorship and kindness. Even after retiring, Norman remained a passionate advocate for learning and technology, often tinkering with new gadgets in his home office, a space that was as much a sanctuary as it was a workshop. Beyond his professional and family life, Norman found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and reflection in the gentle embrace of nature. Those who fished alongside him knew that these outings were more than a hobby; they were a time for sharing stories and wisdom. Norman’s laughter was as abundant as the fish he caught, and his wit could brighten the darkest of days. Norman will be remembered for his sharp wit, generous spirit, unwavering love for his family, and a life lived with integrity and honor. His loyalty, commitment, and honesty were the cornerstones of his character, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. A private ceremony to honor Norman's life was held on May 16, 2026. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Veterans' Association, a cause Norman held dear to his heart. As we say goodbye to Norman, we cherish the memories and the love he shared with us all. His spirit will forever be a guiding light to his family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Norman. You are deeply missed and forever loved.
