It is with profound sadness but also deep gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of our beloved Norma Dean Demps Brown. On April 23, 2026, Norma peacefully departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She was 76 years old.
Born on February 4, 1950, in the small, close-knit community of Itasca, Texas, Norma was the cherished daughter of Wesley and Ruthie Tanksley Demps. She was raised with strong family values that she carried throughout her life, shaping her into a woman of compassion, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Norma was a proud alumna of the Itasca School District, where she received her education, and her journey into adulthood began. She went on to forge a commendable career, dedicating many years to Travis State School and later the Austin Independent School District. Her work was marked by a gentle strength and commitment that touched the lives of many. After retiring, she embraced her most treasured role—being a full-time grandmother. Her home became a haven of love, where she delighted in cooking favorite meals, playing card games like matching and pitty-pat, and teaching her great-grandchildren the family tradition of bingo. Her presence was a constant at school lunches, assemblies, plays, sports events, and all extracurricular activities, where she was known for her infectious smile and supportive cheer.
Norma was preceded in death by her beloved children, Ruben and Michelle Demps; her parents; her cherished sisters and brothers, including her best friend Barbara Brown; and her maternal and paternal grandparents. Their memories lived on in her heart, and now, she joins them in eternal rest.
Left to honor her memory are her children Wesley Brown (Tamika), Keisha Brown, and Tanya Brown (Markeith); her adored grandchildren Ashley Smart, KaShay Hargrove, Kiara Doyle, Anthony Doyle, Wesley Brown Jr, and her eight precious great-grandchildren. Norma also leaves behind her brother George Demps and her loving sisters Ardia Hardeman, Laverne Patterson, Wesley Griffin, and Lovie Demps, as well as her special sister Ruby Carrington. Her aunts, Jo McCowan and Loyce Green, along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends, will forever cherish the warmth, wisdom, and strength she imparted to them.
Norma was a woman of simple pleasures, finding joy in cooking, hosting family gatherings, sitting outside, and watching her favorite NBA and NFL games. She never missed an episode of Family Feud, which brought her endless amusement and joy.
A celebration of Norma's life will take place on May 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at the Itasca Church of Christ, located at 303 E Monroe St, Itasca, TX 76055. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring her remarkable life and the love she shared with all who knew her.
In remembering Norma, we celebrate a life that was rich in love and laughter, a life that was, above all, devoted to family.
