With heavy hearts and deep reverence, we announce the passing of Nghia Mai, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Nghia was born on January 10, 1954, in Ha Nam Ninh, and peacefully left this world on August 9, 2026, at home, surrounded by the love of his cherished family.
Nghia was the beloved son of the late Mai Ngu and Tran Thi Huong. He was predeceased by his parents and his older sister, who remain lovingly remembered in our hearts. Nghia is survived by his devoted wife, Pham Thi Huong, his daughter, Mai Hanh, and his son, Mai Carter, along with his daughter-in-law, Tran La Truc Khanh. He was also the proud grandfather of his two grandsons, Viktor and Vincent Mai, who were the light of his life.
A man of great intellect and curiosity, Nghia pursued his education with vigor, graduating with a bachelor's degree from Northeastern Illinois University. His academic journey was driven by a passion for learning, which he carried with him throughout his life.
Nghia was a dedicated parishioner at Christ The Incarnate Word Catholic Church, where he found solace and community. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he was known for his kind and generous heart, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to those in need.
An enthusiast of soccer, Nghia spent countless hours watching and participating in the game he loved. He also found joy in the quiet pursuits of reading and woodworking, crafting pieces that were as beautiful as they were meaningful. Above all, Nghia treasured the moments spent with his grandchildren, sharing stories and laughter that will echo in their memories forever.
In keeping with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Nghia's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, reflecting Nghia's spirit of giving and hope for a better world.
Nghia Mai will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, embraced by the eternal love of those he held dear.
