It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nelson Crader, who gracefully departed this world on June 30, 2026, at the age of 78, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 15, 1948, in Port Arthur, Texas, Nelson was a beacon of strength and love to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Nelson was the beloved son of Al and Sue Crader, who instilled in him values of integrity and kindness that would guide him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his dear sisters, Doll, JoAnn, and Beth, who were cherished parts of his life. Nelson shared 30 beautiful years with his devoted wife, Geniva, whom he married in a heartfelt ceremony in 1975 in Chicago. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and companionship, filled with countless memories of joy and laughter. A proud graduate of Lincoln High School in 1965, Nelson was not only a dedicated student but also an enthusiastic basketball player. He wore his Ball Player shirt #25 with pride, and his love for the game was evident to all who watched him play. Nelson's professional journey was as dynamic as his personality. He traveled extensively as a ball player, capturing the hearts of fans everywhere with his skill and sportsmanship. Later, he transitioned to a career as an IT specialist, where his problem-solving skills and patience made him a valuable asset to his team and an inspiring mentor to many. A service to honor Nelson's life will be held on July 20, 2026, at St. Mary's, located at 23 Main. Family, friends, and all those whose lives Nelson touched are invited to join in celebrating his remarkable legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Nelson's memory, reflecting the generosity and selflessness that he embodied throughout his life. Nelson Crader's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and compassion. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
