With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Nelly Sanchez Padilla, who left this world on May 6, 2026, at Queens General Hospital, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. Nelly was born on July 14, 1951, in the vibrant town of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, to her beloved parents, Miriana and Jose Sanchez, who predeceased her. She now joins them in eternal peace, along with her stepson, Brian K. Padilla.
Nelly's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and resilience. She was the beloved wife of Virgilio Padilla, with whom she shared 33 wonderful years of marriage after they wed in Queens, NY, in 1993. Their union was a testament to true partnership, filled with adventures and quiet moments alike, especially the long walks in the park and the Sunday crabbing excursions that became their cherished traditions.
Nelly was a devoted mother to her son, Hector Sanchez, and a loving stepmother to Brittany and Carlos Padilla. Her nurturing spirit extended to her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, totaling four and two, respectively, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her extended family and countless friends will miss her dearly, as they were all touched by her quick wit, charming smile, and the jokes she always had at the ready to brighten any room.
A pillar of strength and a beacon of warmth, Nelly's legacy is one of unwavering love and laughter. Her spirit remains with us, a guiding light that will forever illuminate the lives she touched. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
To honor Nelly's life, a service will be held on May 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Peace Mission, located at 104-04 164th St, Jamaica, NY 11433. All who knew her are welcome to join in celebrating a life well-lived and a soul that remains undefeated.
