On May 7, 2026, the world lost a remarkable soul and a cherished spirit, Nellie T. Galasso, who passed away peacefully at the age of 100. Born on October 6, 1925, in the vibrant town of Bayonne, New Jersey, Nellie was the beloved daughter of Maurice and Margaret Green. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Nellie's early years were shaped by the warmth and bustling energy of Bayonne, where she grew up alongside her siblings. She was predeceased by her brothers, John and Denis Greene, and her sisters, Kae Godwin and Rosemary Clever, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Together, they shared countless memories and adventures that would stay with her throughout her life. In the winter of 1945, Nellie married the love of her life, Charles Galasso, on December 30, marking the beginning of a beautiful partnership. Together, they built a family rooted in love and shared values. Although Charles preceded her in death, their love story continued to inspire those around them. Nellie was a mother of four cherished children. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Jeanne D’Angelo, and her son-in-law, Robert D’Angelo, who was a son to her in every way that mattered. She was predeceased by her cherished daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Miller, and her son, Charles Galasso, who died shortly after birth. Despite these profound losses, Nellie remained a pillar of strength and resilience for her family. Her legacy continues through her five beloved grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life. Nellie's home was always filled with laughter and warmth, a testament to her nurturing spirit and boundless love. Nellie's professional journey was marked by dedication and diligence. She spent many years working in Manhattan for a brokerage firm near Battery Park, contributing to a dynamic industry with her remarkable work ethic and attention to detail. Later, she relocated to Pennsylvania, where she worked for the Department of Transportation for approximately 15 years. Her colleagues remember her as a compassionate and hardworking individual who made a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Nellie will be honored in a memorial service on May 11, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the Scalia Funeral Home, located at 28 Eltingville Boulevard. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a woman who touched so many with her kindness, wisdom, and grace.
