Nellie Mae Williams

May 24, 1931 — February 15, 2026

In loving memory of Nellie Mae Williams, a cherished soul whose presence graced this world from May 24, 1931, to February 15, 2026. Nellie passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by love and family, marking the end of a beautiful 94-year journey. Born in the close-knit community of Shaw, Mississippi, Nellie was the beloved daughter of John D. McWilliams and Karrie Lyes, who instilled in her the values of kindness and compassion that she carried throughout her life. Nellie was predeceased by her parents, her dear brother John D. McWilliams Jr., her first husband, Ivory James, and their sons, Fredrick Williams, John H. James, and Randy James. She was later blessed with a second chapter of love when she married Vernon Williams, who preceded her in death. Together, Nellie and Vernon built a family that was the center of her world. She is survived by her loving children, Bonnie Marie James, Patricia James, Vernell Williams, Maxine Williams, and Diane Williams, who will continue to honor her legacy of love and resilience. Nellie's sister, Rosie Sutton, also survives her, along with a remarkable lineage of 18 grandchildren who were the light of her life. Nellie was a woman of simple joys and profound warmth. She found delight in the gentle rhythm of knitting needles and the soothing embrace of music, each stitch and note a testament to her nurturing spirit. Her heart was a haven of kindness, offering comfort and joy to all who knew her. Nellie's life was a tapestry woven with love, her legacy a testament to the power of a warm heart and a gentle soul. A service celebrating Nellie's life will be held on February 19, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Memorial Park South Woods, located at 5485 Hacks Cross Road. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to gather and honor the enduring spirit of a remarkable woman. In these moments of reflection, we remember Nellie Mae Williams as a beacon of love and grace, a woman who lived a life rich with compassion and generosity. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her, her legacy etched in the lives she touched. May she rest in peace, eternally surrounded by the love she gave so freely.
