It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Nelida Pérez Gonzalez, who left this world peacefully in her home on May 26, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on January 8, 1933, in the picturesque town of Chase City, Virginia, Nelida was a beacon of love, resilience, and unwavering faith who touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Nelida was the beloved daughter of the late Francisco Matos and Margarita Pérez. She was preceded in death by her dear siblings, Joshua Pérez Matos, Wilfredo Matos, and Samantha Pérez Matos, whose memories she cherished dearly. Her spirit endures in the hearts of her cherished family: her devoted husband of 55 years, Pedro Rivera, and her loving children, Felix Pérez (Janet Rodriguez), Omar Rivera Pérez (Juan Ureña), Sulliana Pérez (Anthony Whites), Darangely Gonzalez (Leonel Gatez), Jessica Perez (Ronald Rivera), and Hilda Gonzalez who shared in her joys and sorrows throughout her life.
Nelida's legacy continues through her 10 adoring grandchildren: Yarielys Gonzalez, Leangelys Gonzalez, Jayden Gonzalez Perez, Jandriel Gabriel Gonzalez Perez, Bryan Pérez-Whites, Jaasiel Javier Rivera-Perez, Graciela Marie Perez Gonzalez, King Jared Pérez, Danielle Gonzalez, and Jael Daran Gatez-Gonzalez. She also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Chance Williams, Jonathan Matos, and Jahasiel Silva, who brought her immense joy and pride.
After graduating from Benjamin Harrison High School in 1952, Nelida pursued higher education at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. She dedicated her life to nursing, finding her calling in caring for others with compassion and kindness. Her career was a testament to her nurturing nature and her unwavering commitment to serving those in need.
A devout servant of God, Nelida lived her faith through her actions. She was known for her unwavering positivity, her radiant smile, and her ability to uplift those around her with wise words and encouragement. Her love for gardening and hiking reflected her deep appreciation for the beauty of God’s creation, which brought her peace and joy.
Nelida's family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff who cared for her during her final days. Their kindness and dedication provided comfort to Nelida and her family, and they will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
In accordance with Nelida's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor her life. Her family finds solace in the love and memories they shared with her, and they invite all who knew her to remember her spirit, her kindness, and her unwavering smile. As they say goodbye, they hold onto the comforting truth that Nelida will remain "Forever in our hearts."
