It is with a profound sense of loss and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Neil C. Cummins, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Neil departed this world on March 12, 2026, at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and love.
Neil was born in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, California, on January 10, 1942, to Haldane and Betty Jo Cummins. He was raised alongside his beloved siblings, Anne Wiley and Larimore Cummins, in a family that valued generosity and community. Neil carried these values throughout his life, touching the hearts of many with his big smile and hearty laugh.
A proud graduate of Palmdale High School in 1960, Neil pursued higher education at Cal-State San Bernardino, earning a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences. His commitment to serving others led him to join the US Army in 1964. Stationed in Germany and later volunteering for two consecutive tours in Vietnam, Neil exemplified courage and dedication.
Returning to California, Neil embarked on a 28-year career with the California Department of Corrections, where he made a lasting impact as a Corrections Officer, Counselor, and Parole Agent at the California Institute for Men. His work was marked by compassion and integrity, qualities that earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
In 1967, Neil married Ki Vo in Vietnam, and although their paths diverged in 1977. His heart found a home with Louise Lowery, whom he married on April 17, 1978. Together, they built a life rich in love and family, raising their son Gary and Wendy Cummins with devotion and joy until Louise’s passing in 2005.
Neil’s life was blessed with the love of his son Gary, daughter-in-law Kiran, and his grandchildren, Ashly Moreno, Loryn Camarena, and Mychael Cummins. The pride he felt for his seven great-grandchildren was boundless, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
In 2012, Neil found love once more with Nanci Gross, and they embarked on a new adventure as full-time RV’ers, exploring the beauty of the nation and creating countless memories. Together, they shared a passion for travel that enriched their lives and deepened their bond.
Neil was an aspiring sailor, a dedicated member of VFW Post 2924, where he served as Adjutant and brought joy to many as Santa Claus at Christmas parties. He was a man who believed in lending a helping hand, and his generosity knew no bounds—he was even known to help friends and family move.
Neil is predeceased by his wife, Louise, and his daughter, Wendy Cummins. He is survived by his loving wife, Nanci, his dear son Gary, daughter-in-law Kiran, his sister Anne, brother Larimore, his cherished grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and seven great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and laughter.
A service to celebrate Neil’s life will be held on May 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, located at 4201 Eucalyptus Ave., Chino, CA 91710. Following the service, a reception will be held at 12645 Farndon Ave., Chino, CA 91710, where family and friends can gather to share memories and honor a life filled with love.
Neil C. Cummins will be remembered as a man who lived fully and loved deeply. His spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know him, and his memory will be cherished forever.
