With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Nathaniel Mayo, affectionately known to many as "Nay Nay". Nathaniel departed this world suddenly on May 3, 2026, at the age of 56 due to a heart attack. Born on July 22, 1969, in Baltimore, Maryland, Nathaniel was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Nathaniel was the cherished son of Loretta Mayo-Johnson and the late Nathaniel McKinley Mayo. His family was the anchor of his existence, and he took immense pride in his role as a devoted son and brother. Nathaniel is survived by his loving mother, Loretta, his stepfather, Ellsworth Johnson, his sister, Natalie Mayo, and his three brothers, Brian Green, William Green, and Gregory Murray. He was a guiding light to his nieces Tynisha Murray, Donna Murray, Breonna Green, and Takia Green, and nephews Gregory Murray Jr., Donya Bennett, Daronte Bennett, Tyreek Benson, and Quran Benson. Nathaniel was predeceased by his niece, Teasia Benson, and his nephew, Brian Keith Green, who are now reunited with him in eternal peace. Nathaniel attended Baltimore City Schools and, in a testament to his resilience and determination, earned his diploma while incarcerated. He worked for the city of Baltimore and held various other jobs throughout his life, always carrying with him a strong work ethic and an infectious sense of humor. Known for his love of basketball, music, and sports, Nathaniel was a vibrant spirit who brought joy and laughter wherever he went. His infectious smile, often highlighted by his signature gold teeth, was a beacon of light in any room. Nay Nay was never shy about belting out a tune, regardless of his singing ability, and his playful antics with children made him a favorite among the younger generation. He had a passion for driving, always ensuring he had a car or truck to take him on his next adventure. Nathaniel's legacy is one of laughter, love, and resilience. He had a unique gift for making people laugh and never hesitated to be his authentic, silly self. His favorite TV shows, "Sanford and Son" and "The Flintstones," were reflections of his love for humor and joy. A service to celebrate Nathaniel’s life will be held on May 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Calvin Scruggs Funeral Home, located at 1412 E Preston St. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor a life that was truly one-of-a-kind. Nathaniel Mayo may no longer walk among us, but his spirit and laughter will forever echo in our hearts. As we say goodbye to our dear Nay Nay, we find comfort in knowing he is now at peace, singing with the angels, and riding in the clouds. Rest in peace, Nathaniel. You are deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
