It is with a profound sense of loss, yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Nathaniel Joseph Jackson, who left this world peacefully on June 20, 2026, at the age of 68. Nathaniel was born on October 13, 1957, in the warm and welcoming town of Vidalia, Louisiana, a place that he would hold dear throughout his life.
Nathaniel was the beloved son of the late Susie B. Jackson and Robert Lee Smith, who instilled in him values of kindness and generosity that he carried with him, touching the lives of everyone he met. He was predeceased by his cherished sister, Wanda Jackson, and brother, Vince McKnight. Their memories were a guiding light for Nathaniel, and he now joins them in eternal rest.
A devoted family man, Nathaniel is survived by his loving children, two sons, Terrell Wiggins and Joshua Jackson, and three daughters, Quantetin Conner (Kevin), Flomekia Wright (Charles), and Tamika Edwards. He was the proud patriarch of a large family, including 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye. Nathaniel’s family was his greatest joy, and he praised their accomplishments and milestones with a heart full of pride.
Nathaniel's legacy is further carried on by his dedicated brothers Audrey Jackson (Juanita), Billy McKnight, Aaron Jackson, Karl Moore, Robert Moore, Kevin Louis, and George Smith, and his dear sisters Linda Jackson, Joyce Jernigan, Angela Jackson, and Donna Jackson. His great uncle, Samuel Jackson (Pam), alongside a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family, will continue to honor his memory.
Educated in the Vidalia public school system, Nathaniel was a lifelong learner whose curiosity about the world never waned. His career as a Funeral Attendant at Assist Funeral Home demonstrated his deep compassion for others in their times of need. His colleagues and clients alike felt his comforting presence during some of life's most challenging moments.
Beyond his professional life, Nathaniel was known for his vibrant spirit and his passion for singing. Whether he was sharing a song or a story, he always knew how to brighten a room. As a dedicated member of his Gospel Group, his voice was a source of inspiration and joy to many. His laughter, his jokes, and his warmth created an atmosphere of love and camaraderie wherever he went.
Nathaniel’s special friends, including Linda Slaughter, were a testament to his ability to forge deep and lasting connections. His life was a symphony of laughter, music, and family—a melody that will echo in the hearts of those who loved him.
As we say goodbye to Nathaniel, we celebrate a man whose life was a testament to love, humor, and unwavering generosity.
